LKS2 - Black History Month: Floella Benjamin and Windrush

October is Black History Month! To help bring this important month into your classroom, we have produced a full month of resources for each phase.

This LKS2 resource features a week of fully-planned whole-class reading looking at Floella Benjamin’s arrival in Britain as part of the Windrush Generation, with an exploration of her picture book Coming to England and an extract from her novel of the same name. There is also a Newsround article – What is the Windrush Generation – to unpick.

There is daily vocabulary work and retrieval practice, plus work on a range of KS2 reading comprehension skills based on the National Curriculum reading content domains.
