Year 2 Writing Unit: There's a Rang-Tan In My Bedroom - Recount

Brand new for 2025 is this awesome writing unit for KS1, specifically Year 2.

This unit uses the fantastic book There’s a Rang-Tan In My Bedroom by James Sellick and Frann Preston-Gannon to support children in building up to writing a recount from the point of view of Rang-Tan.

Designed to be used over a period of three weeks, there are a variety of vocabulary, oracy and writing tasks designed to build the children’s knowledge, understanding and application of the elements of the KS1 writing curriculum.

The unit covers a range of National Curriculum writing objectives including:

• Write about real events
• Read aloud with appropriate intonation to make meaning clear
• Use expanded noun phrase
• Use commas in a list
• Use co-ordinating and subordinating conjunctions
• Write for different purposes
• Use punctuation correctly
• Re-read writing
